The short answer
Arsenal opened the season with a dominant 3-0 win over Coventry City.
Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard scored, Arsenal kept a clean sheet and Christos Tzolis was one of the standout performers.
Seven FPL lessons
| Lesson | FPL impact |
|---|---|
| Arsenal defence still elite | Keep investing |
| Saka starts fast | Premium attack remains strong |
| Tzolis looks real | Strong GW2+ watch |
| Havertz remains dangerous | Central goal threat |
| Calafiori has attacking upside | Konsa adds new competition |
| Coventry attack struggled | Do not overreact after Arsenal away |
| Coventry GW2 remains useful | Hull is now a tougher test than expected |
1. Arsenal defence delivered immediately
Coventry barely threatened for long periods and David Raya kept the clean sheet.
That confirms the team-level defensive case behind Gabriel, Raya and whichever cheaper defender wins the minutes battle.
The complication is Arsenal's signing of Ezri Konsa.
Read Konsa's FPL impact.
2. Saka starts with a goal
Bukayo Saka scored Arsenal's second and remains one of the safest ways to buy into the attack.
3. Tzolis was one of Arsenal's best attackers
Reuters described Christos Tzolis as a constant threat. He helped create Saka's goal with a low cross and repeatedly beat defenders.
That is stronger evidence than a pre-season return. It does not make him essential after one match, but it raises confidence in his role.
4. Havertz remains a goal threat
Havertz opened the scoring after 15 minutes. Managers should not judge Arsenal's attack only through Saka and Tzolis.
5. Calafiori showed attacking value
Riccardo Calafiori supplied the cross for Havertz's opener.
The performance supports his upside, but Konsa's arrival means managers must still track defensive rotation.
Read the Arsenal defender comparison.
6. Coventry's attack should not be written off
Coventry were facing the champions away. Loum Tchaouna threatened with an overhead kick and Jack Rudoni had a late headed chance.
7. Coventry v Hull remains a GW2 target — with a warning
Coventry host Hull next.
That fixture still matters for Bench Boost managers, but Hull have now beaten Manchester United 2-0, so the matchup looks less automatic than it did before GW1.

OneFPL verdict
Tzolis is the biggest positive FPL takeaway, Arsenal defence remains a buy zone, and Coventry should be judged properly against Hull rather than against the champions.
