Major deadline update — 9 October 2026. This page now reflects Friday's final GW6 press conferences and official deadline analysis.
1. Arsenal vs Leeds
Best premium defensive target.
Raya Calafiori Gabriel Konsa if fit
2. Everton at Hull
Tarkowski and Branthwaite offer:
- clean sheet;
- DefCon;
- set pieces.
3. Newcastle at Coventry
Hall is the standout attacking route.
Botman provides a more central DefCon/set-piece profile.
Forest at Palace
Forest's underlying defensive numbers are strong.
But Milenkovic is out and Neco Williams is doubtful.
That slightly reduces confidence.
Liverpool v City
Do not chase a one-week clean sheet in an elite attacking matchup.
Buy defenders only for medium-term reasons.
Best defender by type
Premium security
Arsenal.
Multiple scoring routes
Tarkowski.
Attacking upside
Hall / Calafiori.
Budget floor
DefCon centre-backs.
OneFPL verdict
Arsenal remain the defensive benchmark for GW6.
Everton and Newcastle are the strongest alternatives when individual scoring routes are included.
FAQ
Which team has the best clean-sheet fixture?
Arsenal at home to Leeds is OneFPL's preferred defensive fixture.
Is Tarkowski worth considering?
Yes. Hull away plus multiple scoring routes keeps him strong.
What about Newcastle?
Hall remains attractive for attacking upside against Coventry.
How to use the defensive ranking
Do not make a defender transfer for one clean-sheet chance unless the incoming player also improves the next few Gameweeks.
For an existing owner, a difficult fixture can often be benched rather than sold. For a Wildcard manager, look for defenders with at least two scoring routes: clean sheets plus attacking threat, or clean sheets plus defensive contributions.
Price matters too. Spending £1m extra in defence only makes sense if that player gives a repeatable advantage rather than one attractive fixture.
Use Fixtures to compare the next run and Defensive Contributions to find players who can still score when the clean sheet disappears.
The best GW6 defender is therefore not automatically the defender from the team with the best fixture. Expected minutes, attacking role, set pieces, DefCon and what the saving enables elsewhere all belong in the decision.
Deadline summary
For GW6, avoid overreacting to ownership or old flags. Use the latest club information, prioritise secure minutes and make sure the transfer strengthens more than one Gameweek where possible. If two options remain close, prefer the player with the clearer role and easier path to 70–90 minutes. OneFPL's Team News, Player Lab, Fixtures and Planner can be used together for the final check.
