Isak after Liverpool 0–1 Arsenal: the GW10 call

Alexander Isak failed to return as Liverpool lost 1–0 to Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday 1 November. Yet this is not the same kind of blank as a striker failing against a weak defence. Arsenal kept their sixth clean sheet in nine Premier League games, and Liverpool did not register a shot on target. Isak's next opponent is Crystal Palace, not Arsenal again.

The right Fantasy Premier League question is whether the next few fixtures and his Liverpool role justify holding a premium forward, not whether a popular transfer scored more in GW9.

The case for keeping Isak

Liverpool travel to Palace in GW10 on Sunday 8 November. The opponent changes and Isak's price makes any sale a significant squad-structure decision. Owners also need to consider how many transfers they would eventually spend buying him back if his form improves.

The official 1 November price update put Isak at £9.2m, following an overnight rise. Before the Arsenal match, over 784,000 managers had transferred him in for GW9, according to the league's report. A large new ownership number makes his blank disappointing, but it does not reduce his future potential by itself.

What the Arsenal match actually tells us

Scout's analysis notes Isak found promising positions but could not convert them into a return. Liverpool's collective production was also limited, and the match centre records zero shots on target. That is evidence of a difficult afternoon and some chance-creation concerns, not sufficient proof that the forward no longer fits the system.

You should examine the number of touches in the box, penalty-area shots, big chances and actual playing time across multiple appearances. A one-match expected-goals figure, even when available, should not decide an expensive transfer on its own.

Isak vs the cheaper forwards

PlayerReported price, 1 NovGW10 opponentWhat you gainWhat you give up
Isak£9.2mPalace (A)Premium attacking ceilingBudget flexibility
Jackson£7.0mManchester United (A)Recent form, money releasedMore challenging immediate fixture
Evanilson£6.4mIpswich (A)Budget plus favorable immediate matchupLess proven long-term premium ceiling

Imagine the price gap lets you upgrade a non-starting defender to Gabriel. The correct comparison is then Isak plus that defender versus the replacement forward plus Gabriel, not Isak versus Evanilson in isolation. Equally, downgrading Isak without a plan for the savings wastes a potential advantage.

When to sell Isak

A transfer can make sense if Liverpool's attacking underlying data are weak over several matches, if new fitness information changes Isak's minutes expectation, or if restructuring funds two important upgrades. If you own João Pedro or Mateta as well, you might prioritize their confirmed absence first.

Selling for a -4 hit after one difficult fixture is a different proposition. The new forward must overcome the points deduction and the sacrificed future upside. Run the plan across at least GW10–12, not just Friday night's price prediction.

When to keep Isak

Keeping is attractive if he remains a secure starter, you have no immediate player-availability problem, and the fixtures look reasonable. You are not required to match the crowd's forward transfers. The GW10 target should be more expected points, not simply a team that looks different after an unlucky week.

Is he a GW10 captain?

He belongs in the discussion, but a Palace away fixture is not automatically superior to Haaland at Forest, Palmer at Sunderland or Gabriel at Hull. Midweek minutes, Liverpool chances created and penalty responsibilities should inform the choice. Read the revised GW10 captain guide after updated team news.

Our verdict

Hold-leaning after the Arsenal blank, provided Isak remains fit and his role is secure. Sell when the move improves your entire next three gameweeks and not merely because Jackson or Evanilson scored last weekend.
