Murillo FPL analysis: DefCon value versus attacking upside
Murillo is an interesting defender because some of his Fantasy Premier League potential is independent of clean sheets. Defensive-contribution actions and set-piece involvement can add value, but they must be compared with expected minutes and whether Nottingham Forest are likely to defend effectively. The Ipswich 1–1 Forest match on 23 October is a useful case study—not proof of an entire season trend.
What the Ipswich game revealed
Forest conceded to Enciso, removing the clean sheet. Murillo was booked according to published match records. Forest created many chances, but a defender's team attacking xG does not establish his own expected goals. Managers should examine Murillo's individual shots from dead-ball situations, minutes and actual qualifying defensive actions before making a transfer decision.
The early FPL points snapshot gives Murillo a one-point return, but final data can be amended. That one low total should not outweigh several weeks of repeatable performance. Conversely, a reputation for DefCon points is not enough without evidence of frequent threshold hits.

How DefCon should influence a defender decision
FPL defensive-contribution points are awarded under position-specific thresholds. For defenders, the relevant actions include clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles. A centre-back who is repeatedly forced into these actions may have a more consistent scoring route than a full-back whose attacking returns are occasional, but a busy defender may still be on a team conceding goals.
| Metric | Why it matters | Why a single match can mislead |
|---|---|---|
| DefCon threshold hit rate | Measures repeatability of the bonus route | Opponent tactics can increase actions unusually |
| Full 90-minute starts | More time to reach defensive totals | One benching can disrupt average |
| Clean-sheet prospects | Major normal defender points | Unpredictable week to week |
| Shots in box | Set-piece attacking ceiling | Rare chances have high variance |
| Current price | Squad value | Historical price snapshots become stale |
Buy, hold or avoid before GW9?
Hold if you already own Murillo, he remains a reliable starter and your broader squad has more urgent transfer problems. Buy when his multi-week defensive-action record and fixtures justify the cost relative to other centre-backs. Avoid rushing after a one-point score or a viral mention: gather a sufficient sample rather than predicting a near-term goal.
Forest travel to Brentford in GW9. That creates a genuine matchup to study. Opponents able to sustain pressure may increase defensive actions while reducing clean-sheet probability, so the two routes can pull in opposite directions.
Compare him fairly with Davis or Muñoz
Davis: greater emphasis on full-back attacking chances and Ipswich clean sheets. Muñoz: attacking wing-back role and demonstrated assist upside against Ipswich. Murillo: potentially different balance of set-piece and defensive contributions. The right buy depends on price, club slots, expected minutes and the rest of your defence.

Editorial correction — 26 October 2026: Murillo and the Forest result
Forest drew 1–1 at Ipswich in GW8. Evaluate Murillo’s defensive action count and shots from set pieces over several fixtures. The official FPL CBIT threshold is ten for two defender points; an unverified per-90 value is not enough to claim he earned DefCon in this individual match.
