Arsenal’s sixth clean sheet in nine league matches makes the defence compelling against Hull in GW10, while Rice has a repeatable open-play involvement case. Isak’s blank against Arsenal should be weighed against Liverpool’s upcoming Palace fixture rather than triggering an automatic sale.

Arsenal 1–0 Liverpool: what Gameweek 9 changes for FPL

Updated context: 2 November 2026, ahead of Newcastle–Everton. Arsenal won 1–0 at Anfield on Sunday, 1 November. Kai Havertz scored in the 16th minute after Declan Rice supplied the pass. Liverpool registered no shot on target, and Arsenal recorded a sixth Premier League clean sheet in nine matches. This is a meaningful defensive sample, not just a one-off upset. It still does not guarantee that a clean sheet will arrive in Gameweek 10.

The next league fixtures provide the practical FPL context: Arsenal host Hull City on Saturday 7 November, while Liverpool travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday 8 November. For a manager deciding whether to buy another Arsenal defender, sell Alexander Isak or change captain, the different fixture outlooks matter as much as the result itself.

Arsenal defence: sustainable evidence, but not a free clean sheet

Six clean sheets in nine games is a stronger reason to own Arsenal assets than their single win at Anfield. The latest game also showed the team's ability to protect a lead under pressure. Yet the match was not completely chance-free: the official match centre records Liverpool attempts, and the absence of a shot on target is not proof that Liverpool never threatened.

Buying decision: if you already own Gabriel, David Raya or Riccardo Calafiori, there is little justification for selling before Hull purely to finance a fashionable GW9 scorer. If you own none, compare the price of entry with what it would cost to upgrade a weaker starter. Two Arsenal defensive slots may be sensible, but three concentrate injury, rotation and fixture risk.

Arsenal's next sequence is not uniformly easy: Hull (H), Newcastle (A), Manchester City (H). A one-week defender purchase should ideally remain useful when the fixtures harden. Analyse this in OneFPL Player Lab and the Transfer Planner.

Rice's assist deserves more attention than the scoreline

Rice created Havertz's goal with a low cross after an overlapping run. Scout's November 1 notes report five league assists this season, all from open play, and highlight his chance creation and crosses. Those are more informative than merely saying he earned a return in a big match. Creativity can persist even if a specific final pass does not produce a goal every week.

For FPL, his midfield slot has an opportunity cost: selecting Rice means passing on another midfielder with perhaps more advanced average positioning. Compare his recent starts, chance creation, shots, set-piece share and the extra money required before buying. He is a credible alternative, not an automatic replacement for all premium midfielders.

What should Isak owners do?

Isak blanked, but Arsenal are one of the league's toughest opponents on current clean-sheet evidence. Selling him based on this result alone risks ignoring Palace away in GW10 and the longer fixture run. Check whether he played enough minutes to look physically ready, whether Liverpool are giving him quality chances and whether his selling price creates a useful alternative.

A transfer to Evanilson or Nicolas Jackson can release funds, but the released budget must improve your XI elsewhere to justify the move. If Isak remains fit and starting, a hold is perfectly defensible. Avoid a points hit to chase yesterday's nine-point forward unless the resulting two- or three-week plan is substantially stronger.

Three decisions for the Friday deadline

  1. Existing Arsenal defensive owner: usually hold; recheck European and team news.
  2. No Arsenal defence: compare Gabriel, Calafiori and Raya at current prices rather than buying blindly.
  3. Isak owner: reassess against Palace and your wider squad, not solely the Arsenal blank.

For captaincy, Haaland, Palmer, Gabriel and Isak carry different scoring paths. See OneFPL's GW10 captain guide before committing.

Frequently asked questions

Did Arsenal keep another clean sheet at Liverpool?

Yes. Arsenal won 1–0 on 1 November, their sixth league clean sheet in nine games at that point.

Should I sell Isak after Arsenal v Liverpool?

Not automatically. Palace away is next; compare fitness, chances and what the replacement money buys.

Is Rice a good FPL buy for GW10?

He is a serious watchlist option because of his creative involvement, but compare his price and role with other midfielders first.
