1. Erling Haaland
Haaland is the default captain for good reason.
Across Manchester City's opening two matches, he registered 10 shots, nine from inside the box and three big chances. City now face promoted Coventry at home.
That gives Haaland three advantages:
- the strongest fixture of the leading premiums;
- the most direct goal threat in City's attack;
- a high probability of starting and playing major minutes.
He is also the natural choice for managers who want to protect rank against a highly captained player.

2. Rayan Cherki
Cherki has made the strongest early FPL start among City's midfielders, with two goals and two assists through the opening two Gameweeks.
He has also attracted more than a million transfers ahead of GW3.
Why captain him over Haaland?
- Midfielders receive an extra point for a goal.
- He offers assist potential as well as scoring threat.
- Captaining him provides genuine rank leverage if Haaland blanks.
Why not?
Haaland's shot volume and central goal threat are substantially stronger. Cherki is an excellent vice-captain and aggressive differential captain, but Haaland remains the percentage play.

3. Alexander Isak
Isak has recorded seven shots in the box and three big chances across the first two Gameweeks.
Liverpool visit Ipswich, giving Isak another strong attacking fixture. He does not quite match Haaland's combination of opponent and goal volume, but managers without Haaland should be comfortable captaining him.
OneFPL verdict: Strong non-City captain.
4. Dominik Szoboszlai
Szoboszlai's appeal goes beyond open play.
He took all nine of Liverpool's corners across the opening two Gameweeks and was responsible for their only penalty. That significantly raises his FPL ceiling because he can return without needing to dominate open-play shots.
Against Ipswich, that set-piece role is valuable.
OneFPL verdict: High-upside midfield differential.
5. Bruno Fernandes
Bruno remains Manchester United's attacking reference point and continues to combine goal and assist routes.
He ranks below the City and Liverpool options this week because captaincy should account for fixture strength as well as player quality.
For managers without the main City picks, however, Bruno remains a credible captain rather than a desperation choice.

Safe captain vs differential captain
The correct choice depends partly on what you need.
Protecting rank
Captain Haaland. His ownership and likely captaincy mean a big score could heavily punish managers going against him.
Chasing upside
Cherki is the most logical aggressive alternative because he shares Haaland's fixture while offering a different scoring route.
No Manchester City attacker
Isak is the strongest fallback.
