Haaland remains a logical initial captain because of his scoring potential. The main question for this week is expected starts and minutes after City's cup tie with Brighton. A rest in the cup may be helpful but does not absolutely guarantee a league start. Check the manager's Friday comments.
Palmer: eligible, but is he the best captain?
The Premier League confirms his red-card suspension is served in the cup against Liverpool, not GW9. However, Chelsea are missing João Pedro for several weeks. That may redistribute shots and chances and make Palmer more central to the attack, but it can also lower overall team cohesion. An eligible player is not necessarily the strongest points projection.
