The short answer
A bad Gameweek does not automatically require transfers.
First separate:
- Bad outcome
- Bad decision
- Bad squad
Those are not the same thing.
Diagnose the problem

Ignore last week's points
A player who scored 15 points is not automatically the best transfer.
Ask whether the role, minutes, chances and upcoming fixtures are sustainable.
Count real problems
One: use a free transfer or hold.
Two: banked free transfers may solve them.
Three or four: compare normal transfers with one small points hit.
Five or more: Wildcard becomes more reasonable, especially if fixtures also turn.
This is a framework, not a rule.
When is a hit worth it?
An extra transfer costs four points.
A hit makes more sense when the outgoing player will miss matches and the replacement has strong expected minutes across several Gameweeks.
A sideways one-week move is much harder to justify.
When should you Wildcard?
Do not Wildcard only because your captain failed or your rival scored more.
Consider it when the squad has multiple structural problems.

Review the decision, not only the score
