Liverpool Transfers 2026/27: Life After Salah Begins with Jacquet and Muñoz — FPL Guide

The biggest FPL storyline of the summer: Mohamed Salah's Liverpool exit. Here's how new boss Andoni Iraola is rebuilding — and which new Reds belong in your GW1 squad.

The end of an era at Anfield. Mohamed Salah has been released after nine seasons, Ibrahima Konaté has joined Real Madrid on a free, and Andy Robertson has crossed to Tottenham. Under new head coach Andoni Iraola, Liverpool's rebuild has started with two statements: £55m for Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet and £34.5m (€40m release clause) for Osasuna winger Víctor Muñoz — the first signing of the Iraola era.

Liverpool finished fifth last season and open 2026/27 away at Newcastle in GW1's Sunday headline fixture.

The headline signings, analysed

Víctor Muñoz — the most explosive FPL watch of the window

Forget the raw totals for a second — six league goals and five assists (seven goals across all competitions) for a struggling Osasuna side — and look at the underlying profile of the 22-year-old Spain international:

  • La Liga's second-fastest player in 2025/26 — clocked at 35.5 km/h
  • 75 completed dribbles: only Lamine Yamal, Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé managed more in La Liga
  • 81 shots: only Yamal attempted more among under-25 players in Spain
  • Scored on his senior Spain debut in March and made their World Cup squad

Muñoz is not a like-for-like Salah replacement — he's a left-sided, direct, chaos-creating winger — but he steps into the minutes vacuum left by Salah's exit and Federico Chiesa's expected departure, with only Cody Gakpo and 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha as established wide options. If his FPL price lands in the mid-range bracket, he is the definition of an upside pick. A Newcastle (A) opener is no gimme, but Iraola's high-octane transition game suits him perfectly.

Jérémy Jacquet — the £55m defensive reset

Liverpool agreed this deal back in February and have now completed it: the 20-year-old French centre-back arrives from Rennes to replace Konaté. Jacquet is a front-foot, aggressive defender who fits Iraola's high line — and with Liverpool's fixtures historically delivering clean sheets at home, he could emerge as a route into their defence at a cheaper price than the established starters. One to monitor rather than a GW1 buy.

What it means for FPL managers

  • The Salah-sized hole is the season's biggest FPL question. His departure removes the game's most reliable asset and redistributes penalties, set pieces and shot volume. Muñoz and the returning Harvey Elliott (back from his Villa loan) are the immediate beneficiaries.
  • Wait on Liverpool's defence. A new manager, a new centre-back and a high line equals early-season risk. Newcastle away first is a clean-sheet fade.
  • Watch the No.9 situation. The squad is light on senior forwards; any striker arrival before deadline day becomes an instant premium FPL consideration.

Bottom line: Liverpool are the window's most fascinating FPL case study. Muñoz offers genuine differential upside, but the smartest managers will let Iraola's first three team-sheets do the talking before committing.
