Transfer status
Chelsea are reported to be close to signing Pep Chavarría from Rayo Vallecano.
Sky Sports reported an initial fee of around £16.3m, with the clubs finalising the remaining details.
At the time of writing, this should be presented as a reported near-completion deal, not an official Chelsea signing.

Why Chelsea want a left-sided defender
Chelsea have already changed significantly on the left side after Marc Cucurella's departure.
The current squad includes:
- Marco Palestra
- Jorrel Hato
- Other defenders capable of playing wide or in a back three
Chavarría would add another specialist left-back option.
FPL impact on Marco Palestra
Palestra's pre-season wing-back role is one of the most exciting Chelsea FPL stories.
A Chavarría arrival can affect it in two different ways:
Negative
Another left-sided defender increases rotation and can push Palestra to the opposite side or bench.
Positive
If Chavarría plays left centre-back/full-back, Palestra may still be free to play a more attacking wing-back role elsewhere.
We need the actual Xabi Alonso lineup.
Chavarría's own FPL case
Do not judge him until the official game confirms:
- Position
- Price
- Starting role
- Set pieces
- Minutes
A new Chelsea defender can be valuable, but the squad is too deep to assume a start.
OneFPL verdict
Important transfer for Chelsea's FPL hierarchy, but not yet a player pick.
The biggest immediate effect is additional uncertainty for Palestra and the left side.
