In GW4, bench decisions should follow this order:
- Confirmed starters with strong fixtures
- Confirmed starters with attacking/DefCon routes
- Players with difficult fixtures but secure roles
- Rotation doubts
- Injured / unlikely starters
Do not bench a good player simply because his fixture is red.
Common GW4 bench dilemmas to resolve
Bryan Mbeumo — Manchester City
Early call: START unless your bench is unusually strong.
Mbeumo scored again in GW3. One difficult fixture does not erase a strong role.
Hull defenders — Chelsea away
Early call: BENCH if you have a secure alternative with a good fixture.
Hull have kept three clean sheets, but Chelsea is a materially tougher test.
Tottenham attackers
Early call: BENCH / avoid where possible.
Tottenham have failed to score in the opening three league matches.
Brighton budget players
Early call: START only after European-minute checks.
Coventry is attractive, but Brighton rotation matters.
Liverpool midfielders
Early call: START if expected to start.
Fulham at home is one of the strongest attacking fixtures. The real concern is rotation, not fixture quality.
How to order your bench
Bench order matters because FPL substitutions happen automatically.
A practical order is:
1st bench: most likely starter with the best points route 2nd bench: secure minutes, lower ceiling 3rd bench: rotation risk / weakest fixture
Formation rules still apply.
If a defender must enter to preserve a valid formation, FPL can skip a midfielder ahead of him.
