FPL GW4 Transfer Targets: Who to Buy, Hold & Sell After GW3

The short answer

Gameweek 3 has given managers real information at last. The strongest GW4 transfer decisions are not simply the players with the biggest green arrows in the transfer market.

Our current approach is:

• BUY / strong consideration: Morgan Rogers, Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer and selected Newcastle assets.
• BUY WITH A CAVEAT: Cody Gakpo, because his immediate form is strong but Bradley Barcola adds a future minutes question.
• HOLD: Bryan Mbeumo, Erling Haaland, João Pedro and strong Arsenal defenders.
• SELL / FIX FIRST: injured or clearly reduced-minute players, and Tottenham attackers until their attacking numbers improve.
• WATCH: the new Deadline Day arrivals whose roles still are not secure.

What the transfer market is doing

In the 6-7 September community snapshot, the biggest net transfers in included Gakpo, Rogers, Isak, Scott, Palmer, Calafiori, De Cuyper, Gvardiol, Hall, Wissa and Egan.

The biggest transfers out included Nico O'Reilly, Szoboszlai, Thiago, Bruno Fernandes, Foden, Wirtz, Cunha and Mbeumo.

Transfer momentum is useful because it tells us where price pressure and manager attention are moving. It is not the same as an FPL recommendation.

Morgan Rogers — BUY / strong consideration

Rogers scored Chelsea's goal at Arsenal and now has much stronger competitive evidence than he did when he first arrived.

Chelsea host Hull in GW4. Hull's three straight clean sheets mean this is not an automatic haul fixture, but Rogers' role, recent output and Chelsea's medium-term run make him one of the most interesting mid-priced options.

Alexander Isak — BUY

Isak scored twice in Liverpool's 2-0 win at Ipswich.

Liverpool now host Fulham, giving him both form and fixture appeal. He is one of the cleanest ways to use a forward transfer if your structure allows it.

The main question is squad balance: do not destroy a strong midfield merely to chase one Gameweek.

Cody Gakpo — BUY WITH A CAVEAT

Gakpo assisted both Isak goals at Ipswich and is the largest current transfer-in mover in the latest snapshot.

The caution is Barcola. Liverpool have added another high-level wide attacker, so the long-term minutes picture needs monitoring through the European matches.

Gakpo is attractive for GW4, but managers should not assume the current hierarchy is fixed for months.

Cole Palmer — BUY / captaincy route

Palmer remains the premium Chelsea route for Hull at home.

Hull's defensive start reduces the temptation to call this an automatic captaincy haul, but Palmer's role makes him a better long-term purchase than a one-week punt.

Bryan Mbeumo — HOLD

Mbeumo scored again against Everton despite being one of the players managers were selling.

Manchester City's fixture makes GW4 awkward, but one difficult match is not enough reason to remove a productive asset if the transfer creates another problem.

Selling Mbeumo for a genuinely stronger multi-week route can be justified. Selling him only because the crowd is selling is not.

Tottenham attackers — AVOID / WATCH

Tottenham failed to register a shot on target at Nottingham Forest and have now failed to score in their opening three league matches.

Until the attack shows a meaningful change, there are better uses of an FPL transfer.

The strongest GW4 transfer shortlist currently starts with Rogers, Isak and Palmer, with Gakpo offering upside but more medium-term rotation risk.

Who is the best FPL player to buy for GW4?

There is no universal answer, but Rogers and Isak combine strong GW3 evidence with attractive GW4 fixtures. Palmer is the premium route.

Should I sell Mbeumo before Manchester City?

Not automatically. He scored again in GW3 and a transfer should improve your squad across several Gameweeks, not only GW4.

Is Gakpo a safe buy?

He is a strong short-term option, but Barcola's arrival means his longer-term minutes should be monitored.
