The short answer
The £5.0m midfield bracket has improved after several late additions.
Our current watchlist ranking:
| Rank | Player | Club | Main FPL route |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jens Hjertø-Dahl | Hull | Box runs and goals |
| 2 | Caleb Yirenkyi | Coventry | Box-to-box upside |
| 3 | Saša Lukić | Ipswich | Premier League experience |
| 4 | Florentino | Ipswich | Defensive contributions |
| 5 | Elliot Stroud | Hull | Attacking output from wing-back |
| 6 | Hidemasa Morita | Hull | Minutes and midfield control |
| 7 | Aladji Bamba | Newcastle | Role-dependent upside |
| 8 | Xaver Schlager | Nottingham Forest | Ball-winning route |
This ranking can change once final lineups are confirmed.
1. Hjertø-Dahl
He scored seven goals in 14 Norwegian league matches before joining Hull.
The late-box-run profile gives him the strongest attacking ceiling in this group.
Risk: major step up in competition.
2. Yirenkyi
A Ghana international with strong Danish league recognition.
His upside is good, but Gustavo Hamer's Coventry return makes the midfield hierarchy less secure.
3. Lukić
The safest Premier League profile.
He has nearly 100 top-flight appearances and costs £5.0m after moving from Fulham to Ipswich.
4. Florentino
His route is mostly through defensive contributions and secure central-midfield minutes.
He suits a bench role more than managers chasing attacking hauls.
5. Stroud
Strong historical attacking numbers, but being classified as a midfielder while playing wing-back hurts his clean-sheet value.
Which profile should you choose?
| Need | Best profile |
|---|---|
| Highest attacking upside | Hjertø-Dahl |
| Premier League experience | Lukić |
| DefCon floor | Florentino |
| Young upside | Yirenkyi |
| Differential | Stroud |
OneFPL verdict
Do not choose a £5.0m midfielder just to save money.
The fifth midfield slot should either play reliably or provide real attacking upside.
