Cole Palmer red card: is he suspended for FPL GW9?
No. Cole Palmer's red card against Tottenham in Chelsea's 0–2 defeat brought an automatic one-match suspension, but the Premier League confirmed it is due to be served in Chelsea's EFL Cup fourth-round match at Liverpool on Wednesday 28 October. That means Palmer is not suspended for Chelsea–Manchester United in Premier League GW9. Eligibility and selection are different issues: still check fitness and manager team news before the deadline.
Why he can play in the league
Palmer was dismissed after two yellow cards in the Premier League. Unlike ordinary yellow-card accumulation, red-card suspensions can carry across domestic competitions. Because Chelsea's EFL Cup fixture comes before the next Premier League match, the suspension is served there.

Should FPL managers hold or sell Palmer?
A red card is not a reason to sell him for GW9 if it does not prevent a Premier League appearance. Reassess his minutes, role, Chelsea's injury context and the fixtures over several Gameweeks. The uncertainty around João Pedro's training problem is a separate issue, and cannot be resolved by assuming Palmer's suspension extends into the league.
How did the dismissal affect Gameweek 8 points?
A sent-off player receives the applicable FPL red-card deduction. If you captained Palmer and he played, your vice-captain does not replace him: the captaincy multiplier remains on Palmer's final points, including negative returns. Conversely, a captain who plays zero minutes can be replaced by the vice when the Gameweek is processed.
