The short answer
You normally cannot select more than three players from one Premier League club.
However, a real-life transfer can temporarily leave your squad with four or even five players from the same club. You may keep that squad, but your next transfer or transfers must reduce the number back to three.
How the exception happens
Example:
- You own three Manchester City players.
- A player already in your squad transfers from another Premier League club to Manchester City.
- You now own four City players without making an illegal FPL transfer.
FPL does not automatically remove the transferred player.
What happens next?

Can you score points from all four?
Yes. While the temporary squad remains in place, all selected players can score normally.
The restriction affects your ability to make future transfers, not the points already earned by the squad.
Should you keep four players?
Keeping four can be sensible when:
- All four have strong fixtures
- The newly transferred player remains a starter
- You do not need an urgent transfer elsewhere
- Selling immediately would lose value
Reduce the number quickly when:
- One player is injured or rotated
- Fixtures worsen
- You need another transfer
- The new club has too much rotation risk
What happens to free transfers?
Your banked free transfers remain available. The restriction controls which players must leave.
If you own five from one club, you normally need two outgoing transfers from that club before normal transfer flexibility returns.

A four-player squad is legal only as a temporary result of a real Premier League transfer. You cannot create it yourself through the FPL transfer screen.
