The short answer
You can bank a maximum of five free transfers in FPL.
You receive one free transfer after each Gameweek deadline. If you do not use it, it rolls forward until your total reaches five.
How free transfers build
| Start of Gameweek | Transfers used | Free transfers next Gameweek |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | 2 |
| 2 | 0 | 3 |
| 3 | 0 | 4 |
| 4 | 0 | 5 |
| 5 | 0 | 5 |
Once you have five, another unused weekly transfer does not increase the bank to six.
What does an extra transfer cost?
Every confirmed transfer beyond your free allowance normally costs four FPL points.
For example:
- Two free transfers available
- Three transfers confirmed
- One extra transfer
- Four-point deduction
The deduction is applied to the next Gameweek score and relevant cup or Head-to-Head score.
What happens when you use a Wildcard?
Saved free transfers are maintained when you play a Wildcard.
The official FAQ gives the example that a manager with two saved transfers keeps two for the next Gameweek.
What happens with a Free Hit?
A Free Hit uses the free transfer received for that Gameweek, while transfers saved from earlier Gameweeks remain available.
The temporary Free Hit squad resets after the deadline.
Best reasons to bank transfers
Bank when:
- Your team has no urgent injuries
- The next fixture swing is more important
- Two linked moves improve the squad
- You need flexibility after European or cup matches
- Transfer news is still uncertain
Use a transfer when:
- A player is ruled out
- You cannot field a valid or strong XI
- A major role or fixture opportunity appears
- Waiting would damage the team more than saving the move
Planning with five transfers
The maximum bank makes multi-player restructures easier without using a Wildcard.

OneFPL verdict
Do not make a transfer only because one is available. A banked move creates flexibility and can be more valuable in a later Gameweek.
At the same time, reaching five does not mean you should refuse a clearly beneficial transfer because the next unused transfer cannot be stored.
