Players whose GW1 role already looks repeatable
João Pedro
Chelsea's £7.5m forward scored and assisted at Fulham while operating at the centre of the attack. That is repeatable role evidence, not just a fortunate defensive return.
Mamadou Sangaré
The £5.5m midfielder already had a strong Defensive Contribution profile before the season. A productive GW1 adds upside without changing the reason he is attractive: cheap secure minutes with more than one route to points.
Dominik Szoboszlai
A successful Liverpool penalty is strategically more important than the points alone because set-piece hierarchy can repeat. Treat him as a strong GW2 target, while recognising one penalty does not guarantee a permanent monopoly.
Hauls that need fixture context
Maxim De Cuyper
A huge opening return makes the Brighton defender an obvious bandwagon. Chelsea away in GW2 means owners can hold without non-owners needing to chase.
Promoted-club attackers
Emersonn and other promoted assets gained valuable competitive role evidence, but GW2 opposition differs sharply. Use the new information; do not buy solely because a goal appeared in GW1.

Why is the article waiting until 09:00 UK?
For 2026/27, Gameweek points only become final at 09:00 UK on the day after the final match, allowing Opta's review to feed into bonus and Defensive Contribution scoring.
Should I buy the highest-scoring GW1 player?
Not automatically. A repeatable role and good upcoming fixtures matter more than one week's total.
