The watchlist has changed again
Gameweek 5 gave us useful league evidence.
The first day of the international break has already given us more.
England confirmed injury withdrawals for Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford.
Germany's split squads create early-return opportunities for Kevin Schade and Anton Stach.
Pascal Groß has no international workload.
That means a GW6 Wildcard watchlist now needs five filters:
- role,
- expected minutes,
- fixtures,
- price/value,
- international-break status.
Do not finalise the 15 on 21 September.
Tier 1: strongest current watchlist names
Pascal Groß
Why he is here
- current returns,
- set pieces / penalties,
- Brighton attack,
- no international workload.
Because Groß has retired from international football, he gets a full club recovery/training block.
Monitor: only club fitness, role and price.
Erling Haaland
Haaland remains the premium forward anchor for many Wildcard structures.
Norway's programme can run through 4 October.
Monitor: starts, total minutes, any knock and Manchester City return-to-training.
Liverpool defensive route
Liverpool defensive exposure remains structurally attractive.
But several senior Liverpool players have Netherlands duty through 4 October.
Monitor: minutes, fitness and which defender offers the best price/start-security combination.
Kevin Schade
Schade has the form/market momentum plus an unusually useful break schedule.
Germany's first group ends on 27 September.
Monitor: two international matches and early club return.
Latest FPL news
Tier 2: strong upside, one major question
Lewis Hall
Hall remains interesting because of attacking upside and Newcastle's post-break fixture context.
He is with England, whose programme runs through 6 October.
Newcastle's later GW6 slot helps recovery.
Monitor: England starts and minutes.
Charalampos Kostoulas
Low price and Brighton's attack make him one of the strongest budget enablers.
Monitor: post-break starting security and international/youth workload.
Brian Brobbey
The GW5 hat-trick demands attention.
He is also with the Netherlands through 4 October.
Monitor: international minutes and whether Sunderland now treat him as a clear starter.
Alex Iwobi
Fulham's Ipswich → Hull → Coventry run is attractive.
Nigeria's current qualifying programme runs on 25 and 29 September, creating the possibility of an earlier club return.
Monitor: actual minutes and advanced role.
Morgan Gibbs-White
His international risk has increased because he has been added to England's squad after withdrawals.
Monitor: England minutes through 6 October.
Injury watch: do not treat these as rest advantages
Cole Palmer
Palmer has withdrawn from England duty through injury.
That changes the Wildcard question from workload to availability.
He stays on the watchlist because of his FPL ceiling, but he should not be locked until Chelsea give better fitness information.
Declan Rice
Also withdrawn injured.
For Arsenal defence/midfield structure, his absence can affect more than his own FPL appeal.
Tino Livramento
Injury withdrawal matters for both Livramento and Newcastle defensive selection.
Mainoo / Rashford
Their withdrawals can alter Manchester United's available attacking structure even if neither is currently a core Wildcard target.
Follow all of these in the International Break Tracker.
Low-workload and early-return watch
| Player | Why the break profile helps |
|---|---|
| Groß | No international duty |
| Schade | Germany first group ends 27 Sep |
| Stach | Germany first group ends 27 Sep |
| Iwobi | Current Nigeria qualifiers end 29 Sep |
This does not make them automatic Wildcard picks.
It means there is less late-break workload uncertainty than for players scheduled through 4 or 6 October.

Budget forward watch
Kostoulas
Best value case if starts are secure.
Brobbey
Highest GW5 haul signal, but avoid chasing points without role confirmation.
Barry
Strong alternative if central starts remain stable.
DCL
England duty through 6 October plus Arsenal away on 10 October makes him easier to hold than buy.
Compare them in Best Budget FPL Forwards.
Mid-price midfield watch
Groß
Strongest overall blend.
Schade
Strong direct-goal alternative.
Iwobi
Fulham fixture swing.
Stach
Early international return but difficult GW6 fixture.

What a Wildcard watchlist is not
It is not:
- a final squad,
- a list of last week's top scorers,
- a list of the most transferred-in players,
- a guarantee of starts.
It is a shortlist of players worth keeping under active observation.
The Wildcard process from here
21-27 September
- set structure,
- track first internationals,
- note early Germany returns,
- follow injuries and replacements.
28 September-4 October
- update four-match internationals,
- track late starts/minutes,
- compare price movement,
- remove injury doubts only when evidence improves.
5-9 October
- club training,
- press conferences,
- predicted lineups,
- final draft.

FAQ
Should Palmer stay on a GW6 Wildcard?
Keep him on the watchlist, but an injury withdrawal means availability must be confirmed before locking him.
Does no international duty make Groß a better pick?
It strengthens the workload/freshness side of his profile, but role, price and fixtures still decide the transfer.
Is Brobbey now essential?
No. His GW5 hat-trick raises his ceiling and search interest, but minutes and international workload still need monitoring.
When should the final Wildcard be set?
Ideally after most internationals are complete and club team news begins.
