Mateta FPL suspension: what to do for Gameweeks 10–12

The Premier League's 1 November 2026 suspension tracker lists Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace) as unavailable for Gameweeks 10, 11 and 12. This is a three-league-match planning problem, not simply an injury doubt that might disappear before Friday's deadline.

When deciding whether to transfer him out, first check what your bench can deliver. A cheap dependable substitute might make keeping him for a limited period reasonable. Without that cover, three missed matches can be too costly for a forward slot.

GW10 forward replacements to compare

This is a choice between value, sustained involvement and budget concentration, not a fixed ranking of who will score most in one gameweek. Prices are from a historical 1 November Premier League report; verify live values before transferring.

Option 1: Evanilson for a direct budget-friendly move

Bournemouth beat Leeds 2–0 in GW9, with Evanilson scoring. The official Premier League record report describes a goal in each of his previous four matches at that point. His next league fixture is away to Ipswich, which gives a strong immediate reason to shortlist him. Buying him may also release cash for a better defender or midfielder.

The risk is chasing a streak without evaluating shots, minutes, opposition, and what happens in GW11–14. If you already own an attacker from Bournemouth, ask whether doubling up improves your expected points enough to justify concentration in one club.

Option 2: Jackson for the longer run

Jackson scored against Fulham and became FPL's most-bought player in a gameweek. The underlying argument is his recent sequence of returns and his role in Villa's attack, not the historical number of buyers. Villa travel to Manchester United for GW10, making him less of a one-week fixture play than Evanilson.

Managers who prefer to buy and hold through several rounds can still favor Jackson. Assess the following two or three fixtures and whether your squad already depends heavily on Villa attackers.

Option 3: Isak when funds are available

Isak's Arsenal blank can create doubt, but Liverpool visit Crystal Palace next. He is more expensive than the other two options, so the correct comparison is Isak plus a cheaper midfielder versus Evanilson plus a stronger midfielder. If the premium structure damages another starter, his theoretical upside may not be enough.

Is keeping Mateta ever reasonable?

Yes, but only with deliberate bench planning. For example, if your first substitute is a reliable starter with acceptable GW10–12 fixtures, you might avoid selling an asset you want back after the ban. That saves a later transfer. Conversely, if your bench contains doubts and you are already covering João Pedro or another injury, keeping Mateta can leave you fielding ten players.

A three-match ban is a useful length for comparing the transfer cost versus a bench solution. Add the expected points from your replacement over those three gameweeks, subtract the substitute's expected contribution if keeping Mateta, and account for whether you will want Mateta back. Never treat forecast points as certainties.

  • No reliable replacement on the bench: prioritize a sale, usually using a free transfer.
  • Need to free money for midfield: compare Evanilson first.
  • Want a sustainable mid-price starting forward: research Jackson.
  • Already have budget to spare: compare Isak and your alternative premium structure.
  • Bench can cover all three weeks: consider holding if you will want Mateta again.
