New FPL Auto Pick: How to Improve the Generated Squad With OneFPL Official FPL now offers a guided squad builder. Here is how to review the generated team and improve fixtures, minutes and transfer flexibility.
Official FPL has introduced a guided squad-building process for 2026/27.
Managers can answer a few questions and receive a generated 15-player squad based on their preferences.
The feature is designed to provide a better starting point, not an optimal final team.
How the guided Auto Pick works The website asks:
Do you want players from your favourite club? Do you want a strong 15-player squad or a cheap bench with an expensive starting eleven? Do you prefer spending more in attack or defence? Managers can review the squad, Auto Pick individual positions, reset it or continue making unlimited transfers before Gameweek 1.
The guided process is initially available through the website rather than the app.
Why the generated team still needs review Last season's data cannot fully account for:
New managers Summer transfers Injuries Late World Cup returns Pre-season tactics New penalty takers Promoted players Current ownership Future fixture swings OneFPL review checklist Does every player have secure minutes? Player Lab Are there injury concerns? Injury News Are the opening fixtures suitable? Fixtures Are better players available at the same price? Compare Can the squad handle future transfers? Step 1: Check the goalkeeper Confirm that the goalkeeper is first choice.
Choose between premium set-and-forget, budget set-and-forget or two rotating starters.
Step 2: Remove non-playing bench players A cheap bench is useful only when the players have a realistic route to minutes.
At least one substitute should be capable of replacing an unexpected absence.
Step 3: Review premium players Check whether the team includes a leading Gameweek 1 captain, a strong vice-captain and a route to Haaland if starting without him.
Step 4: Check ownership risk Ownership should not choose the team, but it explains rank exposure.
A generated squad without Haaland, Bruno or João Pedro may carry substantial early risk.
Step 5: Improve fixture coverage Avoid selecting several defenders facing elite attacks in Gameweek 1.
Also avoid building only for one week. Review at least five fixtures.
Step 6: Test transfer flexibility One injury One failed budget pick Moving to Haaland Moving away from Haaland Upgrading a midfielder A Gameweek 3 fixture swing
Auto Pick problems and fixes Problem Fix No premium captain Upgrade one attacker Expensive bench Move money to the starting eleven Non-playing substitutes Replace with secure cheap starters Too many players from one club Diversify unless fixtures justify it Several World Cup return risks Add safer minutes Weak future fixtures Use the Planner to restructure Uncertain goalkeeper Select a confirmed first choice
Who should use it? The guided Auto Pick is useful for new managers, returning casual managers, late mini-league entrants and users overwhelmed by the player list.
Experienced managers can use it as an experiment and compare the result with their own draft.
OneFPL verdict Generate the team, then use OneFPL to check minutes, injuries, fixtures, ownership and future flexibility.
