The short answer
Do not panic-sell every Tottenham asset after one match — but do not buy Spurs blindly either.
Tottenham lost 3-0 at Brentford, created only around 0.47 xG and failed to register a shot on target in the first half.
Roberto De Zerbi said Spurs are "not a team yet" and highlighted fitness, cohesion and integration problems.
Updated Spurs FPL view
| Player / area | GW1 evidence | OneFPL view |
|---|---|---|
| Antonín Kinsky | Started, conceded three | Hold if owned; do not rush to buy |
| Richarlison | Started centrally, attack struggled | Wait |
| Sandro Tonali | Started in midfield | Poor team context for FPL |
| Mateus Fernandes | Came on at half-time | Minutes not yet secure |
| Archie Gray | Started and captained Spurs | Role useful, ceiling uncertain |
| Porro | Missed GW1 | Monitor return |
| Van de Ven | Missed GW1 | Return can materially improve defence |
1. Kinsky remains cheap — but the bargain case weakens
At £4.5m, Kinsky was attractive because managers expected a starting goalkeeper in a potentially improved Spurs defence.
Brentford scored three and created enough chances to score more.
That does not mean Kinsky should immediately be sold. Goalkeepers on weaker defensive teams can still collect save points.
But managers should no longer treat him as an automatic clean-sheet bargain.
Use the OneFPL goalkeeper rankings before spending a transfer.
2. The missing defenders matter
Spurs were without Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven.
That is a major caveat. Van de Ven was named club captain before the season, while Porro remains one of Spurs' most important attacking defenders.
If both return, this can be a meaningfully different back line.
The correct conclusion is:
Do not buy until the first-choice defence is visible.
3. Richarlison had the role but not the service
Richarlison started centrally.
That is useful minutes evidence, but Tottenham's attacking structure gave him very little service.
A starting striker can still become relevant if the team improves. Do not buy until the attack shows that improvement.
4. Tonali's transfer fee does not create FPL value
Sandro Tonali was one of Tottenham's headline summer signings.
For FPL he still needs goals, assists, set pieces, defensive contributions or an advanced enough role to justify his price.
GW1 did not provide enough positive attacking evidence.
5. Mateus Fernandes is not yet a safe option
Fernandes began on the bench and came on at half-time.
Until he establishes himself in De Zerbi's starting XI, FPL managers should not pay for potential.
6. What to watch before GW2
Before buying any Spurs player:
- Check Porro and Van de Ven.
- Check De Zerbi's next XI.
- Watch the attacking shape.
- Monitor further forward signings.
- Look for improvement in chance creation.

OneFPL verdict
WAIT on Tottenham.
Kinsky owners do not need a panic transfer and Richarlison owners can wait for team news, but there is currently no Spurs player we would aggressively buy on the evidence of GW1.
