This is OneFPL's current best 15-player squad for the opening Gameweeks of 2026/27. It uses the full £100.0m budget and is built around the three strongest early anchors: Erling Haaland, Bruno Fernandes and Gabriel.
The selection is not a permanently locked team. Gameweek 1 is on Friday 21 August, so final friendly minutes, injuries and press conferences can still change individual places.
Bench order: Dubravka, Slater, Bobby Thomas, Charlie Hughes.
Captain: Haaland Vice-captain: Bruno Fernandes
The captaincy can change closer to the deadline. Haaland hosts Bournemouth, Bruno visits Hull and Arsenal host Coventry. Those are the three most important premium decisions in the current draft.
Why Haaland stays in the team
Haaland costs £15.5m, the highest price in FPL history, but early ownership has already moved above 70 percent. He also begins with three attractive home fixtures across the opening five Gameweeks: Bournemouth, Coventry and Sunderland.
Starting with Haaland protects against an early captaincy haul and keeps the transfer strategy simple. It is much easier to sell a £15.5m forward and spread the money than to restructure several positions to buy him after a fast start.
The risk is World Cup workload and a new Manchester City system under Enzo Maresca. His final friendly minutes must be checked.
Why Bruno is the midfield anchor
Bruno scored 235 points last season, more than any other midfielder, and Manchester United begin with Hull away and Ipswich at home.
He offers:
Secure minutes
Penalties
Set pieces
Goals and assists
Defensive-contribution potential
Captaincy in Gameweeks 1 and 2
Cunha is included as the second United attacker because his £8.0m price is flexible and his late-season form was stronger than the alternatives. His exact role still matters. A central position is more attractive than a deeper or wider one.
Why the defence is value-heavy
Gabriel is the premium defender. He scored 209 points last season and Arsenal open at home to Coventry.
William Saliba's back injury creates an opportunity for one of Arsenal's £5.5m defenders. Calafiori is currently the placeholder, but Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera or Piero Hincapie can replace him if pre-season establishes a safer starter.
Maguire is selected because United face Hull and Ipswich first. He combines set-piece threat with defensive contributions, but the centre-back competition must be checked.
Thomas and Hughes are not expected to start in Gameweek 1. Their purpose is to release money while retaining a realistic route to minutes and defensive-contribution points.
Why João Pedro and Osula complete the forward line
João Pedro starts at £7.5m after producing 15 goals and nine assists in his first Chelsea league season. He had a full summer rather than playing at the World Cup and scored a rapid hat-trick in Chelsea's first friendly.
Osula is a more fragile pick. He started Newcastle's final seven league matches last season and scored five goals, but the club is changing manager and its transfer business is unfinished. A new striker signing would immediately reduce his appeal.
The two places most likely to change
Arsenal's £5.5m defender
Use whichever Arsenal defender has the clearest Gameweek 1 role. Do not select Calafiori only because he appears in an early draft.
The £6.0m forward
Osula is the working choice, not a guaranteed final pick. The best alternative can emerge from pre-season minutes, transfers or a promoted-club striker.
Recheck injuries after the final press conferences.
OneFPL verdict
This is the strongest current balance between captaincy, ownership protection, fixtures and a legal £100.0m budget. Haaland, Bruno and Gabriel provide the ceiling. The promoted defenders and minimum-price midfielder make the structure possible.
The squad should be treated as a live draft. The premium core is stable, while Kinsky, Calafiori, Slater and Osula remain provisional.
FAQ
Is this the final best FPL Gameweek 1 team?
No. It is the best current draft and should be updated after the final friendlies and press conferences.
Who should be captain?
Haaland is the current captain, with Bruno the strongest alternative.
Is the bench too weak?
It is intentionally cheap. At least one of Thomas, Hughes or Slater must have a credible route to minutes before the deadline.
