15 Most Nailed FPL Players for GW6 Wildcards: Safest Starters

Updated 22 September 2026. This article originally ranked safe Gameweek 1 roles. Five competitive Gameweeks now give us much stronger evidence about who is genuinely nailed.

The short answer

"Nailed" should mean:

The player's club role gives us very few reasons to expect a benching when fit.

It does not mean:

• guaranteed 90 minutes,
• immune from injury,
• immune from international fatigue,
• immune from European rotation.

This is a minutes-security list, not a projected-points ranking.

Haaland — safest City attacker

Haaland is still the clearest Manchester City attacker.

He has five league goals, league-leading shot numbers and the central striker role.

City can rotate almost anyone around him.

Haaland remains the safest route to their attack when fit.

Norway duty and Champions League minutes still matter, but those are workload questions rather than doubts about whether he is City's first-choice No.9.

Saka — Arsenal attacking anchor

Saka remains one of Arsenal's core attacking pieces.

His role offers:

• penalties,
• goals,
• assists,
• high expected minutes.

Arsenal have Champions League football, so managed substitutions are possible.

That is different from being a rotation-risk starter.

Bruno — role safer than United's form

Manchester United's results have been disappointing.

Bruno's role remains much clearer than the team's form.

He is still:

• a central creator,
• set-piece hub,
• main penalty route,
• difficult to bench when fit.

That makes him a safe minutes asset even when managers debate whether his price is worth it.

Groß — role + no international duty

Groß combines role security with an unusually clean international-break profile.

He has:

• penalties,
• corners/free kicks,
• central creative importance,
• no international duty after retiring from Germany.

Brighton's Conference League schedule creates future workload, but his tactical importance remains very strong.

Schade — role strengthened by five Gameweeks

Schade has already produced three goals and two assists.

His starting evidence is much stronger now than it was in preseason.

Germany's first international group also finishes on 27 September, giving him an earlier return than players whose duty runs into October.

Isak — Liverpool's central striker

Isak has four goals through the opening five Gameweeks.

Liverpool bought him to lead the line.

Supporting forwards can rotate.

The central striker role is much harder to replace when Isak is healthy and in form.

European minutes still need monitoring because Liverpool travel in the Champions League immediately after GW6.

Goalkeepers are naturally the safest group

Once the hierarchy is established, goalkeeper has the least routine tactical rotation.

Arsenal's clear No.1.

Tzolakis

Hull's No.1 and the top-scoring goalkeeper after five Gameweeks.

Alisson

Liverpool's established No.1.

Pickford

Everton's established No.1.

Tarkowski — centre-back security

Tarkowski is almost the definition of minutes security.

Everton's centre-back has:

• five-game starting evidence,
• aerial/set-piece threat,
• defensive-contribution routes,
• elite early FPL output.

His price is a separate value question.

The role itself is extremely safe.

Gabriel — safer Arsenal defender route

Gabriel remains one of Arsenal's most secure defensive outfielders.

His appeal is strengthened by:

• set-piece threat,
• defensive contributions,
• premium clean-sheet environment.

Arsenal's European schedule can create management, but Gabriel remains much safer than guessing the cheapest Arsenal defender.

Gvardiol — strong City start evidence

Gvardiol has been remarkably consistent under City's new coaching structure.

Official FPL analysis notes that he has produced at least four points in every one of the first five Gameweeks.

City rotate heavily.

Gvardiol's actual start evidence still places him above most supporting attackers for role security.

Bogle — safe starter does not mean 90 minutes

Bogle has started strongly and delivered elite value.

He has also sometimes been substituted shortly after 60 minutes.

That can even protect a clean sheet.

The distinction matters:

Start security: strong.

90-minute security: lower than a centre-back.

De Cuyper — five-game evidence is strong

De Cuyper's advanced Brighton role has already generated one goal, three assists and three clean sheets.

Five-Gameweek evidence supports his role.

The new question is Europe.

Brighton play Conference League football, so managers need a playable bench even if the starting role remains strong.

Safe role vs safe transfer

These are not the same.

A player can be nailed and still have:

• a bad fixture,
• poor value,
• injury risk,
• too much workload.

Example: Dominic Calvert-Lewin can have a secure striker role but still be a weak fresh GW6 buy because Leeds travel to Arsenal.

International duty is workload risk, not hierarchy risk

A completely nailed club player can still play four internationals.

That creates workload risk, not necessarily selection-hierarchy risk.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Villa, Bournemouth, Palace, Sunderland and Brighton all have UEFA fixtures.

Some players remain close to automatic starters.

Others have direct replacements.

Hat-trick raises his appeal, but international and Europa workload deserve monitoring.

Ezri Konsa

Cheap Arsenal access, but his opening minutes are not secure enough to call him nailed.

A simple nailed score

Give one point for each:

• Started at least four of the first five
• Expected to start when fit
• No direct equal-quality positional replacement
• Usually reaches 60 minutes
• Core set-piece / tactical role
• Trusted in big matches

5–6: highly secure 3–4: normal starter with some risk 0–2: do not call him nailed

Wildcard implication

A strong GW6 Wildcard should combine:

• 7–10 extremely secure starters,
• a few calculated high-upside risks,
• a playable bench.

If all 15 require a team-news guess, the squad is too fragile.

If all 15 are safe but low-ceiling, it can be too conservative.

Role security is the foundation, not the whole strategy.

GW6 arrives after a long international break and immediately before European congestion.

Expected minutes therefore matter more than usual.

Build around secure roles, then add upside around them.
