FPL 2026/27 Changes: Every New Rule and Feature Explained
Fantasy Premier League is introducing live league rankings, projected bonus points, an updated Bonus Points System and a later Gameweek lockdown. Here is what every manager needs to know.
---
Fantasy Premier League is changing for the 2026/27 season.
Some of the updates improve the live matchday experience, while others will affect player selection, bonus-point potential and chip planning. The confirmed changes include live ranks, live mini-league standings, projected bonus points, an adjusted Bonus Points System and a later time for finalising each Gameweek.
Further announcements, including player prices, position changes and additional features, are expected around the game launch. This page will be updated whenever new information is confirmed.
Live overall rank and mini-league updates
Overall rank and league positions will now update continuously while Premier League matches are being played.
This applies to:
- Overall rank.
- Invitational mini-leagues.
- Global and club leagues.
- Head-to-Head leagues.
- FPL Cup ties.
A goal, assist, clean-sheet loss or captain return can therefore change your position immediately.
The improvement makes the official game more useful during matches. However, rank alone does not explain why a manager has moved.
OneFPL can complement the live table by helping managers examine captain differences, players remaining, bench points, provisional bonus and predicted substitutions in one dashboard. We have written about what OneFPL still adds now that live ranks are official.

Projected bonus points will appear during matches
Projected bonus points will be added to player scores after approximately 20 minutes of a match.
The projections can change throughout the fixture. A player may temporarily be on three bonus points before losing them when another player scores, assists or improves their Bonus Points System score.
Managers should therefore treat live bonus as provisional rather than final.
Bonus Points System changes
The Bonus Points System has been adjusted partly to reduce the overlap between defensive contribution points and traditional bonus points.
The main confirmed changes include:
Players are no longer penalised for being tackled
Players previously lost one BPS whenever they were tackled. That deduction has been removed.
This should help dribblers, attacking midfielders, wide players and adventurous full-backs who regularly attempt to beat opponents.
Clearances, blocks and interceptions earn less BPS
Players will now receive one BPS for every three combined clearances, blocks and interceptions rather than one BPS for every two.
Centre-backs can still collect defensive contribution points, but they may receive bonus points slightly less often when those defensive actions are their main source of BPS.
Goalkeeper saves are rewarded differently
Goalkeepers will receive two BPS for any save, with additional rewards available for saves from inside the penalty area and saves of big chances.
This should improve the bonus potential of goalkeepers who make difficult, high-value saves.

Gameweeks will be finalised later
FPL scores will become final at 09:00 UK time on the day after the final match of the Gameweek.
Previously, Gameweeks were generally finalised much sooner after the final whistle.
The additional review period gives Opta and FPL more time to confirm bonus points, defensive contributions and other match data.
Managers should avoid treating their final score, rank or mini-league position as permanent until the Gameweek has officially locked.
Two sets of chips remain
Managers will again receive two sets of the following chips:
- Wildcard.
- Free Hit.
- Triple Captain.
- Bench Boost.
That means eight chip uses across the season.
The first set must be used before the Gameweek 19 deadline. Unused first-half chips will not carry into the second half of the campaign.
Managers can also continue to save up to five free transfers.
Unlike the previous season, managers will not receive additional December transfers for the Africa Cup of Nations because that tournament is not taking place during the 2026/27 campaign.
See our complete chip strategy guide for how to plan all eight uses.
Defensive contribution points remain
Defensive contribution points will continue for 2026/27.
Defenders earn two points when they reach the required total of clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles. Midfielders and forwards can also earn these points, with ball recoveries included in their calculation.
This keeps centre-backs and ball-winning midfielders relevant even when they do not score, assist or keep a clean sheet.
We explain the thresholds in full in our guide to FPL defensive contribution points.
Career-history comparison
Managers will be able to compare their career performance with the wider FPL player base.
The official website will show a manager's average performance across previous seasons and the corresponding percentile.
This provides more context than simply displaying previous finishing positions.
What should FPL managers do now?
Do not rebuild your strategy around a single announcement.
Instead:
- Learn how the revised bonus system changes different player profiles.
- Track pre-season minutes and tactical roles.
- Wait for official prices and positions.
- Use the opening fixtures to identify useful team combinations.
- Build several squad structures rather than committing to one early draft.
